THE APPROPRIATE WAYS TO REMEMBER ALLAH (PART 1)
I seek refuge in Allah from satan the rejected.
In the name of Allah, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful.
As the Quran is fully detailed, it tells us the best ways to remember and exalt ALLAH. They are shown through the past precedents, as well as the verses that reflect on different situations. What could be better than to follow the examples of past believers, and who could be better as our examples than God’s messengers, all chosen and guided by Him. There were specific situations, and specific words have been used for us to follow in order to be guided. Some of the words used to remember ALLAH appear as straightforward commands and others are given through specific situations and circumstances.
Most of the glorification and praise of Allah can be done by remembering HIM through these words: Subhan Allah (Glory be to God), Alhumdo Lillah (Praise be to God), Masha Allah (Blessed by God), Insha Allah (God willing), Astughfaru Allah (asking forgiveness from God), Bismillah (In the name of God), etc. These words reveal a unique and outstanding feature – each has the name of Allah attached to them. To apply and say them in the correct situation is what really matters. Today, I will show you when and how to say these words, as revealed through the verses. There are many other ways to remember GOD, which I shall recite to you in PART 2 of the khutbah next week, GOD willing. I have observed that some believers use these words haphazardly, whether it is in their emails, talk, or other communications; sometimes in unsure, repetitive way, by using the wrong choice of word. They seem rightfully keen to magnify ALLAH, as is required of them, but do not know how and when to use a particular word to remember HIM. At the same time, I notice that they are not using the name of the LORD to implore in many other different situations. They seem to be a little confused, and in their over-zealousness, they use them incorrectly. GOD can also be remembered, praised, and glorified by mentioning His attributes given in the Quran in an appropriate way, according to the situation. It is very important to implore Him by calling out: “MY LORD OR OUR LORD”, as the verses will reveal. This is also a way of glorifying HIM, which most believers are not aware and therefore never address HIM as such.
I will recite a few verses on different words that can be used to remember and exalt HIM. This subject cannot be covered during a single khutbah; and I will try to limit the proofs to finish it on time. This sermon should help the believers in making the right choice of words in future, to remember ALLAH, and to praise and glorify HIM
in different ways.
USAGE OF “ALHUMDO LILLAH – PRAISE BE TO ALLAH”
6:1 Part 1: Praise be to ALLAH, who created the heavens and the earth, and made the darkness and the light.
Revealed: The Allah letters are 19. The messenger’s initials are 19 also.
6:1 Part 2: Yet those who disbelieve in their Lord continue to deviate.
Revealed: The Allah letters are 5. The difference in 19 and 5 is 14. Praise be to Allah, who has revealed the Sacred Codes through the same verse.
***You should say, “Praise be to ALLAH”, when exalting Him as the only Creator of the universe, as well as the Creator of all the other creations within this vast universe. The word of “praise” can also be used when you witness or hear about Allah’s retribution and punishment upon humans or a community.
6:44 Part 1: When they thus disregard the message given to them, we open for them the gates of everything.
6:44 Part 2: Then, just as they rejoice in what was given to them, we punish them suddenly; they become utterly stunned.
Revealed: The Allah letters for both parts are 11 and 13, revealing the diff. of 2, thus warning the people that those who reject and disregard God’s message have committed IDOLATRY, (worship of 2 gods) and can be punished suddenly without any advance warning.
FOLLOW UP VERSE:
6:45 Part 1: The wicked are thus annihilated.
6:45 Part 2: Praise be to ALLAH, LORD of the Universe.
Revealed: The Allah letters are 7 and 8, revealing the diff. of 1. Revealed: The messenger’s initials are 9 and 10, revealing the diff. of 1.
Revealed: The messenger’s initials are 14 up to ALLAH, and 19 in the entire verse, revealing the Sacred Codes of 14-19, as well as the “Revelation of 1”.
***You should praise ALLAH, when you hear or see His retribution upon the disbelieving people. Retribution and punishments of Allah are a major component of the scripture, warning the hypocrites and the disbelievers of the severe consequences of disbelief.
2
35:33 They will enter the gardens of Eden, where they will be adorned with bracelets of gold and pearls, and their garments in it will be made of silk.
35:34 They will say, “Praise ALLAH for removing all our worries. Our LORD is Forgiving, Appreciative.
Revealed: The Allah letters are 17 and 18, revealing the diff. of 1. Revealed: The Allah letters for both verses are 17 + 18 = 35. The messenger’s letters for both verses are: 32 + 22 = 54. The diff. in 35 and 54 is 19. Praise be to ALLAH.
***The believers will praise ALLAH for granting them Paradise and removing all their worries. On Earth, they had a worrisome life, full of stress, afflictions, disease, persecution, and all kinds of evil that they had to face. They will praise ALLAH for being Forgiving towards them and also for the attribute of ALLAH as being APPRECIATIVE. Why is ALLAH appreciative of some humans? The reason being that the believers made a sincere and honest effort to believe, uphold and promote ALLAH’s laws, though the odds were stacked against them on Earth, and for being steadfast. They rejected satan and his followers and sided wholeheartedly with ALLAH. It is in accordance with the following verse:
76:22 This is the reward that awaits you, for your efforts have been appreciated.
Revealed: The Allah letters are 8, and messenger’s initials are 9, revealing the diff. of 1.
Revealed: The Allah letters are 8, and messenger’s letters are 11, revealing the sum of 19. The reward from the ONE, Forgiving and Appreciative LORD, is guaranteed for the devoted, sincere worshipers of ALLAH, who believe in all the messengers without any distinction, and strive in His cause, as the verses have proved above.
39:74 Part: They will say, “Praise be to ALLAH, who fulfilled His promise to us. (What promise of Allah are the believers going to remember on the Day of Judgment?)
Revealed: The GV of Allah letters is 165 for the portion above. The promise of the Lord is that if you believe in Him as the ABSOLUTE LORD, and follow His guidance through His messengers, rather than the guidance of the unauthorized humans, and do not pollute your belief and actions, then He will redeem you and grant you Paradise. This is in exchange for your striving and efforts made in His cause. The GV of 165 is the numerical value of the
3
SHAHADAH and of the attribute of AL-SAMAD, meaning ABSOLUTENESS. Let me recite the entire verse and also the last verse of the chapter.
39:74 They will say, “Praise be to ALLAH, who fulfilled His promise to us, and made us inherit the earth, enjoying Paradise as we please.” What a beautiful recompense for the workers!
Revealed: The Aleefs in the verse are 14, signifying the completion of the Sacred Codes of the Quran, which have been revealed to prove and confirm ALLAH’s Absolute Authority.
39:75 Part 1: You will see the angels floating around the throne, glorifying and praising their LORD.
39:75 Part 2: After the equitable judgment is issued to all, it will be proclaimed: “Praise be to ALLAH, LORD of the universe.”
Revealed: The GV of Allah letters for Part 1 is: 133 = 7 x 19, or 19 x 7, revealing the Sacred Codes.
Revealed: The GV of Allah letters for Part 2 is 223, (being the GV of “the believers”), thus identifying the select group of believers who submitted wholeheartedly by believing in the Quran, its miraculous Codes, and in the messengers sent to deliver them.
***The believers as well as the angels will be praising ALLAH on the Day of Judgment after the equitable judgment is issued by Him, separating the believing from the disbelieving people, in order to be rewarded or punished.
14:39 Praise be to ALLAH for granting me, despite my old age, Ismail and Isaac. My LORD answers the prayers.
*** You should praise ALLAH, as Abraham did, for granting you children, and for answering your prayers for whatever you implored for.
23:28 Once you are settled, together with those who are with you, on the watercraft, you shall say, “Praise ALLAH” for saving us from the evil people.
*** You should praise ALLAH, as the verse says, for separating and saving you from the disbelieving, evil people and from saving you from the curse of annihilation. The Heaven is forbidden for those annihilated through retribution of ALLAH.
USAGE OF THE WORD: SUBHAN-ALLAH – GLORY BE TO ALLAH
4
7:143 Part 1: When Moses came at our appointed time, and his LORD spoke with him, he said, “My LORD, let me look and see You.”
Revealed: The Allah letters are 14.
7:143 Part 2: He said, “You cannot see Me. Look at that mountain; if it stays in its place, then you can see Me.”
Revealed: The Allah letters are 14.
7:143 Part 3: Then, his LORD manifested Himself to the mountain, and this caused it to crumble. Moses fell unconscious. When he came to, he said, “Be You glorified. I repent to You.
Revealed: The Allah letters are 19.
Examine this verse again with different proofs now:
7:143 Part 1: When Moses came at our appointed time, and his Lord spoke with him, he said, “My Lord, let me look and see You.”
7:143 Part 2: He said, “You cannot see Me. Look at that mountain; if it stays in its place, then you can see Me.”
Revealed: The Aleefs are 7 and 7 – reflecting the Miracle of Seven & Seven Pairs.
7:143 Part 3: Then, his Lord manifested Himself to the mountain, and this caused it to crumble. Moses fell unconscious. When he came to,
7:143 Part 4: He said, “Be You glorified. I repent to You, and I am the most convinced believer.”
Revealed: The Aleefs are 6 and 6, revealing the Pattern of 66, being GV of ALLAH.
Revealed: The GV of Allah letters for parts 3 and 4 is 352 – this being the GV of Quran.
Moses had to say that he was the most convinced believer after witnessing Allah’s power and Signs. We are witnessing the power of Allah through each and every part of these verses of Quran, but the sad and ironic fact is that very few believe and praise Allah for these revelations of precision.
***You should glorify ALLAH after seeing His Signs, and before repenting to Him.
5
21:87 Part 1: And Zan-Noon (Jonah), abandoned his mission in protest, thinking that we could not control him. He ended up imploring from the darkness (of the big fish’s belly):
21:87 Part 2: “There is no god other than You. Be You glorified. I have committed a gross sin.”
Revealed: The Allah letters are 14 and 14 in each part – revealing “the Revelation of Seven Pairs”.
Revealed: The Aleefs are 7 and 8, revealing the diff. of 1, proving the Absolute Power of ALLAH.
21:87 Part 2: “There is no god other than You. Be You glorified. I have committed a gross sin.”
Revealed: The Allah letters are 14, and messenger’s letters are 19, revealing the Sacred Codes of 14-19.
***You should glorify ALLAH when you commit a gross sin and offer repentance by reciting the Shahadah again to affirm His Absolute Authority, as He is the only One who can forgive.
17:107 Proclaim, “Believe in it, or do not believe in it.” Those who possess knowledge from the previous scriptures, when it is recited to them, they fall down to their chins, prostrating.
Revealed: The Allah letters are 28 in the verse, a multiple of 14.
17:108-109 They say, “Glory be to our LORD. This fulfills our LORD’S prophecy.” They fall down on their chins, prostrating and weeping. For it augments their reverence.
Revealed: The Allah letters are 14 in these verses, and the difference in Allah letters between 17:107 and 17:108-109 of 28 and 14 Allah letters is also 14, revealing the Seven Pairs.
***You should glorify ALLAH for fulfilling the prophecy to “reveal the Quran”, as was prophesied in the previous scriptures, and for fulfillment of other Quranic prophecies, as well as for any new revelation, just as you are witnessing right now.
17:108 Part 1: They say, “Glory be to our Lord.”
6
Revealed: The GV of messenger’s letters is 380, a multiple of 19.
17:108 Part 2: “This fulfills our Lord’s prophecy.”
Revealed: The GV of messenger’s letters for entire verse is 644, a multiple of 14.
Revealed: The GV of Allah letters for entire verse is 95, a multiple of 19. The importance of the Quran and the fulfillment of the Prophecy is hereby revealed with the revelation of the Sacred Codes of 14 and 19 through the same verse, Glory be to ALLAH.
17:93 Part 1: “Or unless you own a luxurious mansion, or unless you climb into the sky. Even if you do climb, we will not believe unless you bring a book that we can read.”
17:93 Part 2: Say, “Glory be to my LORD. Am I any more than a human messenger?”
Revealed: The Aleefs are 6 and 5, revealing the diff. of 1, as the Absolute Lord who alone has the power to reveal the Book and to choose and appoint messengers.
***You should glorify ALLAH, if you are appointed as a messenger, or if a messenger brings to you HIS message.
12:108 Say, “This is my path: I invite to ALLAH, on the basis of a clear proof, and so do those who follow me. ALLAH be glorified. I am not an idol worshiper.
***You should glorify ALLAH when you follow His path based on clear proofs. The ones who do this are submitting to Him, and the ones who reject the messenger and the clear proofs are clearly idol worshipers.
68:28 The righteous among them said, “If only you had glorified (Allah)!”
68:29 They said, “Glory be to our LORD. We have transgressed.”
Revealed: The Aleefs are 5 and 6, revealing the diff. of 1 – the Absolute Lord.
***You should glorify your LORD when you transgress His laws and after repentance. The Proof of Aleef highlights the importance of glorifying the One, Absolute Lord of the Universe.
7
24:15 You fabricated it with your own tongues, and the rest of you repeated it with your mouths, without proof. You thought it was simple, when it was, according to ALLAH, gross.
24:16 When you heard it, you should have said, “We will not repeat this. Glory be to You. This is a gross falsehood.”
24:17 ALLAH admonishes you that you shall never do it again, if you are believers.
Revealed: In verses 24:15 and 24:16, the Aleefs are 7 and 7, revealing the Absoluteness through the Seven Pairs.
Revealed: In verses 24:16 and 24:17, the Aleefs are 7 & 6, revealing the Absoluteness through diff. of 1.
***You should glorify ALLAH when you have falsely accused an innocent person of a sin, without proof, and in order to repent, you have to promise not to repeat the same mistake again after declaring your sinful action to be a falsehood from satan. Believers are admonished strictly to refrain from these kinds of gross sins.
34:40 On the day when He summons them all, He will say to the angels, “Did these people worship you?”
34:41 They will answer, “Be You glorified. You are our Lord and Master, not them. Instead, they were worshiping the jinns; most of them were believers therein.
Revealed: The Aleefs are 7 and 8, revealing the diff. of 1 – reflecting the belief of the angels in ALLAH, as the ABSOLUTE LORD.
***You should glorify ALLAH when you proclaim HIM to be your LORD and MASTER, just like the angels do. Since most humans worship the jinns (the devils), by following other than ALLAH’S commands; the angels will refute the charge of issuing any unauthorized commands to the people and affirm that they only carried out ALLAH’S commands and no one else’s.
25:17 On the day when He summons them, together with the idols they had set up beside ALLAH, He will say, “Have you misled these servants of Mine, or did they go astray on their own?”
25:18 They will say, “Be You glorified, it was not right for us to set up any lords beside You. But You allowed them to enjoy, together with their parents. Consequently, they disregarded the message and thus became wicked people.”
Revealed: The Allah letters are 22 and 23, revealing the diff. of 1 – the messengers of ALLAH will deny on the Day of Resurrection that they misled the people into committing idol worship of any kind, or to idolize them. The
8
blame will rest on the people who disregarded the messengers and the messages that ALLAH sent through them, and blindly followed their parents. GOD’S messengers only deliver what they are sent to deliver, as they are constantly under the direction and inspiration of GOD.
***The messengers GLORIFY ALLAH in this world and in the Hereafter. On the Day of Judgment, they will reject the people’s idolization of them, and for changing the teachings after they died. Furthermore, the messengers take their orders and commands straight from ALLAH, and not from any human being, therefore, they will rightfully say as expressed in the verse: “It was not right for us to set up any lords beside You.” They follow what is revealed to them, as the next example will illustrate, through the example of Jesus:
5:116 ALLAH will say, “O Jesus, son of Mary, did you say to the people, ‘Make me and my mother idols beside ALLAH?” He will say, “Be You glorified. I could not utter what was not right. Had I said it, You already would have known about it. You know my thoughts, and I do not know Your thoughts. You know all the secrets.”
5:117 I told them only what You commanded me to say, that: “You shall worship ALLAH, my LORD and your LORD.” I was a witness among them for as long as I lived with them. When You terminated my life on earth, You became the Watcher over them. You witness all things.
***This example above highlights the fact that the reverent respond to ALLAH by glorifying Him. I have already stated in my comments above, under 25:17-18 that the messengers take their commands from ALLAH and deliver His purified message to the people. The wicked and disbelieving people then distort the message either during the messenger’s life or after he dies. GOD already knows and has witnessed what the messengers said and did, but they will be brought forth to state the truth in order to shame and expose the disbelieving and idol worshiping followers of the scriptures.
USAGE OF THE WORD “INSHA ALLAH” (GOD WILLING)
18:23 You shall not say that you will do anything in the future.
18:24 Part: Without saying, “Insha ALLAH.” (God willing)
Revealed: The Allah letters are 10 and 9, revealing the diff. of 1 – and the sum is 19.
***This is a “command from ALLAH”, and does not need any more clarification. The proofs reinforce the importance of this command. If you forget to say these words at
9
10
the appropriate time, as commanded, then you have to remember your Lord immediately and ask Him to guide you to do better next time, as the verse suggests.
USAGE OF THE WORD MASHA ALLAH AND LA QUWWATA ELLA BILLAH
18:39 Part 1: When you entered your garden, you should have said, “This is what
ALLAH has given me. (Masha Allah)
18:39 Part 2: No one possesses power except ALLAH. (La Quwwata Ella Billah)
Revealed: The Aleefs are 5 and 4, revealing the diff. of 1 – this shows how important it is to honor this command, as any blessing you have is from Allah, and no one else has the power to give you anything except Him. If you fail to say “Masha Allah”, God can take His blessings back from you, if He so decides. When you mention this word of glorification – Masha Allah, in the presence of disbelievers, it is important to say “La Quwwata Ellah Billah” to let them know that no one else has any power except ALLAH; a solid reason to reveal through this verse: the “Proof of Absoluteness”, represented by the difference in ALEEFS.
Part 2 of the khutbah will be continued next week, Insha Allah. Please read it carefully: Note the specific words used and suggested by our Lord in different situations, to remember Him – you have to use the appropriate words at the appropriate time & situation, in order to please Allah. It is sinful to go against His commands, or against the precedents given by Him in the Quran.
Peace be upon the messengers.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Universe.
